High End vs Street: De-Puffer’s

I saw Arielle from With All My Affection (awesome blog, go check it out) do High end vs Street end with clothes and it looked like an awesome idea, so I decided to try the same ideas but with makeup!  Today I was in a Rite-Aid, and what should I see? A de-puffer, by Covergirl for about $11 . This seems do be an exact dupe for Benefit’s Puff Off which is $29!  I don’t know about you, but apart from the packaging (Benefit’s looks way cuter) they seem to be the same product, one is just way more expensive. This is just a quick and (hopefully) informative post, and also a heads up that there will be a small giveaway soon, to show how much I appreciate you all. I am planning to do a giveaway once I hit 25 followers, so lets see how fast we can manage that!

DSC_0135The theme this month was Thinking of You, and came in a slim and sleek black bag. The material it’s made from is soft, but this bag just seems boring to me. I don’t mind though, they are great to put gifts in, and the service isn’t about the bag but what’s inside it. The bag is just an added bonus! Here is what I got:

NYX Butter Lip BalmNYX Butter Lip BalmNYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Balm in Ladyfingers- This is a super build-able lip balm, I was shocked! It goes on sheer with a slight tint, but as I added more it became SUPER PIGMENTED! And to top it off, it smells like berries AND moisturizes, which is awesome for the wintertime when I get chapped, cracked lips. It is also very buttery, hence the name “lip butter” and I would buy more. It is a mauve toned lip balm, and reminds me of the Revlon lip butters, but (sadly) without the cute packaging.

Full Size: $4  My Value: $4

Link (25% NYX Glam Collection, with code NYXGLAM):

Coolway Boost Repair TreatmentCoolway Boost Repair Treatment- This product smelled so bad. It was a combination of nail polish remover and hand sanitizer with a bit of fruit, but is was just so overpowering. I did use it and the smell went away, but it didn’t repair my hair. It did volumize it for some strange reason though, but I would never buy it in fear that any more interactions I have with it will make my nose fall off from that nasty odor. I can get volume someplace else, not worth losing my poor nose over this.

Full Size: $29.95  Sample Size: $3.74  My Value: $.5 (the volume is worth something)

Link (20% any purchase with code IPSY12):

Crown brush infinity shadow brushCrown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush- The shadow side of the brush packed the color onto the lid nicely, but was a little scratchy. A dense-ish brush, but not good for blending. The crease side of the brush was great! I felt it really held onto the color to bring it through the crease, and was a very dense brush. Neither brush was very fluffy so I would recommended a different brush for blending the shadows together. I do enjoy this brush, and it is great for travel to have a two-in-one. It seems to be of good quality, no hairs have fallen out, still a firm brush.

Full Size: $6.99  My Value: $4

Pixi by Petra Fairy Dust in Brightening BarePixi by Petra Fairy Dust in Brightening BarePixi by Petra Fairy Dust in Brightening Bare

Pixi by Petra Fairy Dust in Brightening Bare- I really like the color of this shadow. It is a shimmery nude with a satin feel and look. It is also quite blend-able and makes a nice lid color. I just wish the packaging didn’t suck. I hate it’s packaging soooo much. With a burning passion, because how am supposed to apply it to my lid with this silly q-tip-like applicator?! Answer: I’m not, there is way to much fallout onto my lashes an face, and GAH! So instead I just glare at it and hope it transforms into a  non-stupid mineral powder pot instead of this weird tube whatsit, because those don’t aggravate me! Grrrrrr.

Full Size: $10  My Value: $3 (not worth much because of its hassle to use)

Link (20% off of any purchase with code PIXIDUST):

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 MascaraTarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 MascaraTarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara- I am really bi-polar towards this mascara. Sometimes it looks gorgeous and there is no clumping and it volumizes the heck out of my lashes. BUT other times I just want to give it a bit of a smack, because it will be clump city, and then it will have a fallout onto my face and I have these nasty black bits under my eyes. The formula itself just smells like a regular mascara, and it has bushy, fiber bristles. Straight wand, nothing fancy, and I think that my indecisiveness about it could just be operator error. I get so frustrated with it sometimes that I am just doing to blame it on the mascara 🙂 Nice product, just nothing to rave about. Sadly I don’t have a holy grail mascara, but if you have any suggestions let me know in the comments below lovelies!

Birchbox december opened

December birchbox

This months Birchbox theme was Decked Out, and came in the most gorgeous box ever, which I will definitely be keeping! It also came with $10 gift card to Gap, which will last until December 30th! Oh my goodness this totally gets me into the holiday spirit 🙂 Here is what I got:

Beauty protector sampleBeauty Protector Protect and Oil-This smells like the holidays. I’m not even kidding, it smells like sugar, spice, and all things nice, it’s it’s like liquid gingerbread. Along with the smell it is a nice product. I don’t straighten/curl my hair so I don’t know how great of a heat protector it is, but I use it as a hair oil and it works well. It makes my hair shiny, and soft, and smooths out the flyaways which is perfect. Good product, and smells like a Starbucks drink 🙂

Full Size: $29.95  Sample Size:$4.54?   My Value: $3 Link:

Cynthia Rowley lip stain in SugarCynthia rowley creamy lip stain in sugar

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Sugar- This is a really smooth everyday lip color. When they say creamy I would agree, but I don’t think it is a lip stain, and for me it had a very short lasting time of an hour or two before it started to fade. It’s a pigmented rose-y, mauve pink semi-matte lip color, and is very buttery in feel with a makeup smell. I like the color, not the lasting power.

Full Size: $20  Sample Size: $9.29  My Value: $3  Link:

Mirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara in BlackMirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara in BlackMirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara in Black- This mascara makes my lashes longer, but too much can make them spindly. The mascara’s smell is slightly stronger that a typical mascara smell, with a curved fiber bristle wand. I think it does a good job separating my lashes, but doesn’t really darken or thicken them much. I think if you combined the thickness of the Tarte mascara with the length you get from this one, it would make a really awesome product. I just layer this mascara on top of the Tarte one and it does a pretty darn good job. By itself it’s OK, but not Barney Stinson legendary.

Full Size: $29  Sample Size: $11.6  My Value: $3.5 Link:

Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face RejuvenatorVasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator- Ouch, this scrub was too harsh for my face, and made me break out. I swear whenever I used it it caused blemishes to appear on my skin. I didn’t think it was a “rejuvenator” and I don’t think it did much good. Maybe I just have sensitive skin, but I don’t recommend this for people with delicate and/or sensitive skin.

Full Size: $34  Sample Size: $5.67  My Value: $0

Whish Shave Cream in Acai GrapefruitWhish Shave Cream in Acai Grapefruit- This smells really nice, but when I shave I use soap, so this wasn’t my favorite product. It was ok, but it didn’t wow me. It wasn’t very moisturizing, and I am not going to use it just for the smell. I wouldn’t buy this product, and soap actually works really well! I don’t hate this product, but I would never buy it either.

Full Size: $20  Sample Size: $2.93  My Value: $0  Link:

Gap Gift CardGap Gift Card- I think that this was a great idea, but I totally forgot about it, and since it expired on the 30th of December, and I got my box on Christmas, I had little time to use it. I just didn’t get around to it 😦 I would have loved to use it though, and it is totally my fault I didn’t.  I just wish they would have had a longer period before the Gap-Cash expired. I do believe that it is worth the $10, as I would have definitely used it had I remembered, and I go to Gap a lot anyway.

Full Size: $10  My Value: $10  Link:

Total Math Value: $44.03  My Value: $19.5 How many of the products will I use/like?   4 of 6

Summary: I really enjoyed both boxes this month, and both mathematically in value and in my personal value did Birchbox win. I think it was a close call, but it came down to the products I enjoyed the most, and so Birchbox won. The score is now 1-1.

See you in the next smackdown lovelies,

The theme this month was Girl Meets Glitter, and the bag was VERY sparkly. Don’t get me wrong I love glitter, but it seemed a little much. What I did love about though was the color combination of pink and silver, AND the bag was collaborated with Forever 21 which was really cool! Here is what I got:

SeaRx Micro-Dermabrasion Face and Body Scrub
– Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this product! It smells citrus-y and has a fine grit, and it made my face feel really smooth. I will say it dried out my face a bit, but with some moisturizer afterwards, it worked really well.  I don’t know about the preventative aging the product claims to have because I don’t have too many wrinkles, but it seems to get off my dead skin cells, and make my face smell like oranges so I love it.

Full Size: $32  Sample Size: .68 cent  My Value: $1

Link (free shipping on orders over $50, use code:searxipsy) :

Be A Bombshell Eye Base in Submissive– It is a really beautiful bronze colored eye shadow that looked nice with a smokey eye, but smudged pretty easily. The hold is OK,  and it stayed for 3-4 ish hours. What’s really nice about it, and all cream bases, is that if you’re in a rush, you can just slap some on alone and it would still look amazing! I also love the shimmer, and it goes well with the Girl Meets Glitter theme. This product does smells a little like glue though. It isn’t super strong, but still, I don’t want people to think I put Elmer’s Paste to my face 🙂 .

Full Size: $14  My Value: $8

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argon Oil
– Eh. This was really all I had to say. At first I was really excited to try it because of the argan oil, but I looked at the list of ingredients and it was behind 8-9 other things which makes me think their isn’t much of the oil in there. I tried it, it didn’t hold for very long with my hair, and I was pretty disappointed with the hairspray. Out of the four things it says on the bottle ” Volume, Shine,  Extra Hold, and Fast Drying” two of the four were flops. It didn’t hold, or give me much volume, BUT it did have a nice smell, dried quickly and without flaking, and gave my hair some shine. Not a lot of shine, but some. It was also sulfate, paraben, and DEA free which was lovely to see. I just wish it gave me some volume! Sadly I won’t be using this product anytime soon.

Full Size: $8.29  Sample Size: $1.38  My Value: $0

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye-
I now worship this cream. Full Coverage: Yes, I put it under my eyes and its makes me look like I actually get sleep at night. I would recommend using some sort of beauty blender though, it is VERY thick. I would also recommend a powder over the top to give it a more matte finish, because when its on your skin it makes it appear slightly oily. Concealer: Heck yes! It is so thick, and with such nice coverage that is makes a great concealer, but it can make you little two-toned if you don’t blend it out properly, be careful! Another thing I love about this is that even though it comes in a teeny sample size, you don’t need much of it. A little goes a long way for this cream.

Full Size: $24  Sample Size:$9.42 (nearly $10 for a tiny sample…seriously?!)  My Value: $5

Link ( 20% purchase of $25 or more with code IPSY):

Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure- This is a really nice product, I just did’t like the shade so I passed it on to my mom who loved it! It is a light pink shade, and isn’t sticky, which I loved because one thing I find with lip gloss is that is can act like a paste on your lips and I hate that! It also didn’t stick to dry spots, AND smelled like vanilla/marshmellows, but I have heard the full sze of this product doesn’t smell this way. It didn’t have any sort of taste, and I just wish Ipsy sent a different color, but what evs.

This month’s box was partnered with RED to raise AIDS awareness, so I was really happy with the company for doing a good thing! The November box was about giving, and for every photo of the box taken with the #shaRED on Instagram or Twitter, Birchbox donates $1 to the fight against AIDS. Again, good job Birchbox for being kind this time of year! This box also came with a cute mini gift guide for the Birchbox shop. What I got in the box:

Coola Tinted Matte SPF for Face- I would have loved this product even more if it just came full with the product, but it didn’t. Instead it came half-full, which made me sad, because this is already a sample so how much product was I going to get anyway?! Apart from that though, this was a fantastic product. It was smooth, silky, and lightweight, and it is also a BB cream. It has light coverage, smells softly of fruit, and I didn’t find it greasy. It was perfect because even in the winter I apply it to prevent wrinkles caused by sun damage. Loved this product, might even buy a full size.

Full Size: $36  Sample Size: $3.6  My Value: $1

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy and Body Lotion-  I do enjoy this lotion, but it looks like it came from a hotel. It just looks cheap. BUT I do like the product itself and that’s what matters. It smells clean, and cucumber melon-y, though it’s supposed to smell like “relaxing sea fennel.” I don’t know what that smells like, so for all I know this could actually smell like uptight sea fennel, and I would never know 😉  It makes my hands nice and soft and is a bit greasy at first, but after it absorbs into your skin it feels great. Use it in small amounts though, too much will make your hands super oily. Nice to use, not a wower.

Full Size: $15  Sample Size: $2.53  My Value: $2

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive- Any exfoliator that tingles when its on my face usually works well. This was no exception. In the bottle it smells like sunscreen, but when it’s dried on your face it does smell like apples. It was hard and messy to apply because it was really watery, but once it was on it didn’t drip. After the first few minutes my face started to tingle, and as this happened the liquid also dried making my face kind of sticky. It was worth it though because after the ten minutes, I washed it off and my face was smoother, and little brighter. This is a nice product, and it does make a difference to my skin which is the most important thing.

Full Size: $39  Sample Size: $ 5.07  My Value: $3

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk in Natural Tint- I never use dry shampoo, ever. I love showers too much, and so I use regular shampoo. Whenever I travel, I am in a place with running water so I shower there too. I did try this product, it just didn’t do it for me. It smells nice, it looks nice, and it works decently, I just a am not a fan of dry shampoos. Maybe I just haven’t found one that really cleanse’s and moisturizes my hair yet, I don’t know, but this just isn’t something I feel I will use.

Full Size: $19.50  Sample Size: $6.09  My Value: $0 Link:

ModelCo Party Poof Lipstick in Get Naked- I cannot wear nude. I just don’t pull it off. If it did, I would be so excited for this product, but since I don’t, it is going to be a Christmas gift for a friend. I love the name and the packaging of this lippie, and it smells like fruit roll ups, which is a weirdly nice scent. It is a semi-matte peach nude, but is a little too orange for my skin tone, so again, I can’t wear it. It’s OK though, because it will be a perfect gift!

Full Size: $24  Sample Size: $6.66  My Value: $3 (made a great gift) Link:

BONUS Chuao Firecracker ChocoPod- This was delicious. To be fair I love most chocolate, but this was really good! It was bittersweet dark chocolate with crunchy crackling pop rocks and then spicy undertones of chipotle AND it was only 50 calories! So good, I might buy the sample selection on Birchbox. They have fun flavors like Pop Corn Pop, and Orange A Go GO, sounds yummy, and because it is dark chocolate I can say they are “healthy” *wink wink*.

Full Size: $1 My Value: $1  Link:

Total Math Value: $24.95  My Value: $10 How many of the products will I use/like? 4 of 6

Summary: Both mathematically and in personal value did Ipsy win this month. They had a cute bag, and introduced me to items I would never dream of buying. In terms of products I will use myself, Birchbox won marginally, probably because of their bonus item, but hey I will always “use” the chocolate! Overall, Ipsy won, and the tally stands at 1-0.

Ciao Lovelies,
